Oh hell, the hand was too close to the copperhead! Exoman shows his herper tools and explains how he could have been bitten on the fingertips by a copperhead Agkistrodon contortrix. If you want to see beauty and danger mixed together, check out this beautiful snake skin! Many comments refer to this as a deadly snake. The fact is this is one of the LEAST dangerous venomous snake species in the world. The pain might be extraordinary at times but the bite is very rarely lethal. The fatality rate is exceedingly low, about 0.01%. Bites from this normally docile animal occur most often when an observer is too close or handling the snake with little or no knowledge of how to do so.

Snake hunting can be fun but also dangerous without proper herper tools. Catching America's venomous reptiles. Tell us if you find copperheads where you are or where to find snakes in your experience or if you have ever been bitten.

Exoman's estranged father was a professional reptile handler (herpetologist) and familiarized him with reptiles in early childhood. He also taught him to handle venomous snakes as a very young boy.

This species is normally quite docile but can put you in a world of hurt if you disturb them or step on them. It is very rare to succumb to the venom but the experience can be very painful.
