As a black male and a millennial I've never considered Mr. Ramsey a racist... Just and old school/ old fashioned straight shooter. We need this!

I am a black christian woman that grew up poor. I am in control of my finances. Most African American people that I tried to talk to about finances will not listen. In order to get somewhere you have never been you're going to have to do things you have never done. You cannot talk to a brick wall

Graduate high school, maintain a full time job, don’t have kids before marriage. That’s 90% of the battle.

Generational poverty is very tough to break out of. I grew up with my mom taking my money to pay the bills she couldn't afford. I grew up learning the message that money should be spent while you still have it, or you will lose it to something not as rewarding, like bills. I can't help being in poverty, but I can help being broke. I'm working on reversing this pattern. I already have $75 saved up. I'm going to apply for a second job today. I'm in school to get a certification. But I would never have had the mindset to change my situation if I didn't have a mentor in my stepdad to instill that value in me.

The cause of being poor is spending 100% of the money you earn

Instead of looking at someone as being racist try looking at how much can I learn from this person? I really think poverty stems from the lack of knowledge and the lack of self discipline .

According to some studies 70 percent of lottery winners will end up broke. Poverty has a lot to do with how you think --at least in the U.S.

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the arms to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man. Prov 24:34

In conclusion:
Liberal: help the poor with other people money.

It’s not how much you make it’s how much you spend. My Grandpa had a saying.Use it up , wear it out, make do or do without.

The term is "learned helplessness" if you can keep the elephant thinking the thread holding it's ankle is a shackle, it'll never even try to pull against it. The media loves catastrophizing and overwhelming people with the "magnitude" of the problem by pushing the propaganda that we're helpless. As for me and mine, we're not falling for it.

As a black man trying to talk to the people I grew up with about finances, the quote "its easier to get out of the hood than it is to get the hood out of you" is nothing short of FACTS. You talk about financial literacy and how impressing people is holding you back and they don't want to hear it.

Truth is, here in Detroit we didn't have schools to give us a great education, just an OK one. Luckily thru the teachings of Dave, Boyce Watkins, and other financial icons I've been on the right track to rebuilding and my emergency fund literally saved me when I hit a big crisis.

Also, to hear a guy like Dave admit to the oppression and racism that holds certain people down is a breath of fresh air, considering I'm a big fan of his (although I still would be a fan if he didn't, I'd just be more cautious about certain things). This tells me that he actually studies data and truly understands numbers and how the world works. This is not me saying blame the white man for every bad thing that happens in our lives because, in reality, most of us could fix our situations if we take our "club and jordan money" and save it.
